Opening the lens

on development-oriented approaches to drugs

Breaking the Silos: A Workshop Series

The interconnections between illicit drugs, sustainable development, and human rights remain insufficiently explored in many national contexts. Despite growing research and shifting policy perspectives at the global level, researchers, experts, practitioners and policy-makers have timidly engaged in the debate at national levels. Daleth research organizes thematic workshop series to break the silos and respond to this gap by offering a space for:

  • Sharing academic research, field experiences, and good practices developed across different contexts and scales;
  • Fostering cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary dialogue;
  • Building a common understanding of the nexus between drugs, development, and human rights, and exploring concrete pathways toward more coherent, complementary, and inclusive policy responses.

The initial series was dedicated to the drugs and development debate in France. It included five online seminars held between November 2020 and June 2021, beginning with national and local perspectives and gradually opening to broader reflections across French-speaking countries and international initiatives. The first series was organized in cooperation with the D3S "Social Science, Drugs and Society" program at the EHESS, Médecins du Monde and the Drugs and Development Hub.
